Department of Endocrinology of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital was formally set up in 1994. Since then, it has consistently focused on both the clinical work and scientific research development. It has always paid attention to introduction and cultivation of the talent, optimization of the structure of human resource and enhancement of international communication and cooperation. It has developed into a well-equipped department with enormous potentiality through long time endeavor. Its distinguished research, spanning more than 30 years, incorporates diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and so on. Currently there are 35 staffs, including 5 Chief Physicians, 3 Associate Chief Physicians, 2 Attending physicians, 8 residents.
Our department mainly focuses on diabetes, diabetic foot, obesity, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, osteoporosis, gout, and so forth. We have 40 wards. The majority of the admissions are diabetes, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, metabolic bone disease, gout, adrenal disease, pituitary disease, etc. We have rich experience especially on the perioperative glucose management, and diagnosis and treatment of diabetic foot, metabolic bone disease and gout. Our endocrine clinics consist of expert clinic and general clinic.
Our department has undertaken the teaching activities of undergraduates of Peking University Health Science Center and the training of the internal physicians and general practitioners for many years. Several physicians won awards in the teaching contests of our hospital or Health Science Center. Three physicians have oversea research experience (Germany, America and Australia), and all physicians are actively involved in the domestic and foreign academic activities. The clinical work and teaching practice of our department have ranked the advanced domestic level now.
Since 2003, our department has undertaken 2 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects funded by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and 2 project funded by Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, 3 projects funded by the China Medical Association and 1 project funded by the hospital, with almost 2 million Yuan’s research funding. Meanwhile, our department has participated in a number of domestic and international multi-center clinical trials, with 4 trials ongoing currently. In addition, our department has extensively established international exchange academic activities with Humboldt University in Germany, Indiana University in America and Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Australia, and has published over 100 articles on many famous domestic and foreign journals, among which 10 SCI articles were included.
