Based on practical needs to better serve patients, the Blood Transfusion Department of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital was first established in 1999 as a branch of the hospital’s Clinical Laboratory Department. In 2008, With its expansion and ensuing regulatory requirements, the Blood Transfusion Department was spun off and became an independent department, with its primary function on secure steady blood supply, blood type matching, and distribution optimization. A designated department director was appointed in 2014. Now, the department serves various clinical departments on 3 sites of the hospital.
The department is fully equipped with state-of-art instruments, with world class operating standards and procedures in place. In recent years, component transfusion accounts for 99% of the cases we handled, a clear indication of our technical advancement and capacity. We achieved full score in Ministry of Health hosted inter-departmental quality evaluation tests in consecutive years. Aside from our core functions, the department participates in clinical lab technician continuous training programs.
